How Laser Hair Removal works

Laser hair removal uses concentrated light energy to target the pigment (melanin) in your hair follicles. The absorbed light converts to heat, gently damaging the follicle and preventing future hair growth.

At MGM Clinic Enfield, we use the latest diode laser systems that combine multiple wavelengths to treat both shallow and deep follicles—ensuring optimal results for every skin tone.

Our laser devices feature integrated cooling technology, which protects your skin and keeps the procedure comfortable from start to finish.

Everything You Need to Know Before Your Treatment

The MeDioStar Next PRO is one of the most advanced laser hair removal systems available today.
Unlike standard single-wavelength lasers, it uses two wavelengths at the same time (810 nm and 940 nm) to deliver more precise, longer-lasting results.

  • The 810 nm wavelength directly targets and disables the hair follicle.

  • The 940 nm wavelength works on nearby cells that can trigger regrowth, helping prevent future hair return.

This dual-action process provides enhanced effectiveness and safety, even on darker skin tones (types V and VI).
Thanks to its integrated cooling system, treatments are gentler and more comfortable, with noticeably less pain compared to traditional laser devices.

Good preparation helps the laser target your follicles effectively while keeping your skin protected.
To get ready for your session:

  • Shave the area the day before or on the day of your appointment.

  • Avoid waxing, tweezing, or electrolysis for at least four weeks beforehand.

  • Skip tanning and fake tan — fair skin (types I–III) should avoid sun for four weeks; darker tones (types IV–VI) for three to five days.

  • Don’t use self-tanner for two weeks.

  • Stop topical retinoids (like Retin-A) for three to five days, and oral retinoids for three weeks.

  • Avoid Accutane for at least six months.

  • Arrive with clean skin — no makeup, lotions, or deodorant.

Following these steps ensures your treatment is safe, effective, and irritation-free.

Because each hair grows at a different stage of its cycle, several sessions are needed for complete, long-term reduction.
The laser only affects hairs in the active growth phase (anagen), so multiple visits ensure every follicle is treated.

Here’s a general guide:

  • Face: around 6 – 10 sessions spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart

  • Body: around 4 – 6 sessions spaced 8 – 12 weeks apart

The exact number can vary depending on your skin tone, hair colour and thickness, hormonal balance, and the area being treated.
During your consultation at our Enfield laser hair removal clinic, we’ll assess your individual needs and design a bespoke plan for the best results.

After your session, it’s normal for the treated skin to appear slightly red or warm — similar to mild sunburn.
This usually fades within a few hours. You may also notice a bit of darkening or tiny scabs that naturally shed over the next 5 – 14 days, along with the treated hairs.

To care for your skin afterwards:

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 48 hours.

  • Skip perfumed or harsh skincare products for one day.

  • Stay away from saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers.

  • Apply cool compresses or aloe vera gel to soothe the skin.

  • Wear loose-fitting clothing to reduce friction.

  • Always use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ when going outdoors.

Think of it as treating a mild sunburn — keep it cool, protected, and moisturized. Within days, your skin will look smoother and feel softer as unwanted hair falls away.
